WEEKLY MESSAGE – March 28, 2024

WEEKLY MESSAGE – March 28th – Fr. Cederberg

It is hard to believe, when one sits in the dark, alone and unable to sleep, that the sun will ever rise again.  How can one hope when hope only raises expectations that may be frustrated?  How can one hope when pain deprives us of peace and even the thought of joy?  It is easy to want to give up when we have one of those “Good Friday” experiences that wrenches away happiness, and when love seems a practical joke.
And yet, Easter came.  Easter is not pretty icing on a bad cake but the redemption of our whole lives, from the inside out, from the bottom up.  Through Holy Week we see Jesus enter into our sufferings, experiencing them fully.  He takes them and transforms them into signs for us of his deep and enduring love.
As we come to the celebration of Easter, let’s not leave Good Friday behind.  Let us remember that when Jesus appeared to his disciples, he appeared with his wounds.  He reminds us that we don’t have to pretend our wounds don’t matter, but rather that he loves us so much that our wounds matter very much.  He has taken them on himself, and transformed them into signs of his love and grace.
May that awareness deepen our celebration of Easter, and help us to see more deeply than ever how much we are loved by our resurrected Lord, and how much he desires to set us free.
Alleluia!!!
