<p align="center"><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">WEEKLY MESSAGE </span></p>
<p>Happy St. Nicholas Day!</p>
<p>Today we celebrate St. Nicholas’ day. But do you know who he was? What is significant about him and what impact does he have on our Christmas season?</p>
<p>St. Nicholas lived during the 3rd- 4th Century in what we now call modern day Turkey. His wealthy parents died when he was fairly young. Instead to keeping the wealth all for himself, he learned to share his wealth and generosity with others and he became a generous giver. He was known as a gift-giver and life-giver. There are legends about him demonstrating kindness to others by providing generosity to the poor, the children, the sailors and beyond.</p>
<p>One of the most famous stories about St. Nicholas is about a poor family who agreed to sell their young daughters into prostitution in order to keep the family afloat. Nicholas heard about the family’s situation and secretively placed gold in their house. The money was then used for dowry for each of the daughters, saving them from living out an action against their conscience and providing life for them through his generous gift.</p>
<p>There is also a legend about three young boys being lured into a butcher shop during a famine in order to be killed and put into large pickled wooden barrels in order to be sold as ham. St. Nicholas rescues them from the wooden barrels.</p>
<p>Perhaps these stories portray reasons why St. Nicholas became the Patron Saint of Children and Virgins. Because of his kindness and life-giving attitude, he fought for justice and set people free to live life to the fullest.</p>
<p>Finally, it is from St. Nicholas that we get the name Santa Claus. In the Netherlands is the legend Sinterklaas, a linguistic expression of the saint&#8217;s name &#8211; a man who remained strong and influenced the colonies New Amsterdam (New York), where his name became Santa Claus.</p>

<p><strong>How’s Your Neuroplasticity?</strong></p>
<div></div>
<div>Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Rev. Patsy and I are at a Clergy Wellness Conference in Orlando, sponsored by the Episcopal Church Pension Group. We have learned many things assessing our Clergy well-being in six categories; Financial Resources, Physical health, Purpose of life, Emotional health, Social connectedness and Character strengths. What drives these six areas of well-being is neuroplasticity.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In a nutshell, neuroplasticity is training our brain to think, act and behave differently through growth and reorganization. Throughout our lives, our brains are trained to think a certain way. These thoughts become habits. It reminded me of what I taught the student evangelists in Madagascar.</div>
<div></div>
<div>                  Sow a thought, reap an action.</div>
<div>                  Sow an action, reap a habit.</div>
<div>                  Sow a habit, reap character.</div>
<div>                  Sow character, reap destiny.</div>
<div></div>
<div>As beloved children of God, we are forever training our brains to think, behave and live as Christ would.  How is your neuroplasticity?</div>
<div></div>

<div class="x_default-style"><strong>Cheeseeeeeee!</strong></p>
<div></div>
<div>Our parish had so many wonderful things happening this past month—Caribbean Sunday, Episcopal School Sunday, and nine baptisms on All Saints Sunday. The numbers have grown significantly, and it has been a joy to witness these milestones in the life of our church as we celebrate our ethnic diversity, educational values, and baptismal covenant. Thank you to everyone for leaning in and helping make these moments a success.</div>
<div></div>
<div>This week, we had the opportunity to dress up for professional photos as part of our parish directory. It&#8217;s been three decades since Patsy and I have had professional pictures taken together! Initially, I thought of it as just another task in an already busy week—a chore I had to get through. But then I decided to change my perspective. Instead of viewing it as an obligation, I chose to engage in the process. I even brought a sports jacket to wear! In that moment, it felt like I was taking Patsy out on a special date. I had a great time interacting with the parishioners who came early, and the whole experience turned out to be much more enjoyable than I had expected.</div>
<div></div>
<div>That shift in mindset made all the difference. Choosing to engage instead of just going through the motions brought a spirit of joy and connection to the event.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The same is true for the life of our parish. Going forward, we all have choices to make. Every step we take requires a shift in mindset—both individually and collectively as a community. Whether it&#8217;s about a photoshoot or a larger challenge, embracing a new way of thinking is essential to fostering engagement, joy, and connection. Even in the busy or challenging times, leaning in and choosing to be present makes all the difference.</div>

<p><strong><u data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">WEEKLY MESSAGE – November 3rd  – The Right Reverend Peter Eaton</u></strong></p>
<div></div>
<div>Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,</div>
<div></div>
<div>As we approach the election, we do so knowing that our Anglican tradition calls us to faithful and responsible citizenship.  Our tradition expects us to vote in accordance with our assessment of the issues before the body politic and in accordance with our conscience.  In this spirit, it is my earnest hope that every member of our diocese who is entitled to vote will do so.  This is a duty, not a luxury or a choice.</div>
<div></div>
<p>This election comes at a time of great importance for our nation and for the world.  As we cast our votes, I encourage you to reflect prayerfully on the issues before us and to seek the inspiration of God’s sustaining Spirit in making decisions that are formed by our commitment as Episcopalians <em>to reach for the good</em>, to <em>seek and serve Christ in all persons</em>, and <em>to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being</em>.</p>
<div></div>
<div>In this spirit of prayerful discernment, we are invited to join Election Night Virtual Prayers on Tuesday, 5 November, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET, hosted by The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations. This is an opportunity for us to gather with our fellow Episcopalians from across the Church, and to pray for our nation amid the choices and challenges that we face. Our Presiding Bishop will offer an opening reflection and prayer.</div>
<div></div>
<div>You can participate in the event by registering for Zoom or joining via the Facebook livestream. For those who would like simultaneous Spanish interpretation, please be sure to register for Zoom.</div>

<div></div>
<div>Take Things One Step At A Time</div>
<div></div>
<div>As many of you know, I wasn’t in church this past Sunday. Last weekend, Patsy and I spent five days in South Bend, Indiana, where we attended the Inspired Leadership Initiative program alumni gathering at the University of Notre Dame. Every year, alumni come together to attend lectures, discuss issues, meet new graduates, reconnect with friends, and enjoy an Irish football game. The events are stimulating, encouraging, and filled with joy.</div>
<div></div>
<div>I’m glad we went, especially since we almost didn’t because of the hurricane and tornadoes. Patsy and I struggled to decide whether to go, given all that was happening in our lives last week. The Weather Channel was issuing warnings about impending disasters, with conflicting updates about the storm&#8217;s path. We had to consider everything that needed to come together: If we stayed, what would we need? What supplies would we need to survive without electricity? We also thought about safety and security—what about our belongings outside? Our windows? Our home? What should we do with the food in our refrigerator?</div>
<div></div>
<div>On the other hand, if we decided to leave, what steps would we need to take? Would flights still be running? Could we even find an Uber to the airport? And what about Patsy’s mom, who lives nearby? We felt overwhelmed by all these decisions and stressors.</div>
<div></div>
<div>One of the best decisions we made was to tackle everything in smaller chunks. First, we prioritized our tasks and then divided them up, addressing them one at a time. Once we did that, it didn’t seem as overwhelming. It allowed us to achieve smaller victories along the way.</div>
<div></div>
<div>I think our parish can be a bit like this. Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed by our responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation and the body of Christ—whether it’s maintenance, finances, skill sets, projects, ministries, events, or people. It can be helpful to prioritize, divide tasks, and take things one step at a time, celebrating our progress along the way.</div>

<div class="x_default-style"><strong><u data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">WEEKLY MESSAGE – October 13th – Bishop McGregor</u></strong></p>
<div></div>
<p><strong>What a week?</strong></p>
<div></div>
<div>This has to be one of the most nerve racking weeks I have had in sometime as we prepared for hurricane Milton. On the one hand, we were able to prepare our home with safety and security. We were able to put up the hurricane shutters once someone taught me how to do it correctly. We were able to make preparations for water, batteries, food and etc.</div>
<div></div>
<div>But what I underestimated was the emotional rollercoaster of my mind. The uncertainty of the forecast and direction of Milton changing every five hours. The unexpected impact and devastation of the tornadoes in our areas. Then Patsy and I were divided over the decision as to whether we would keep our plans and head to the Inspired Leadership Initiative alumni gathering at the University of Notre Dame.</div>
<div></div>
<div>This week has been very stressful and life is like this. The question is how can we return to joy after being filled with anxiety and fear? For me, it helps to pray and spend time with Jesus….to quiet myself….to go for a walk…..to be thankful under all circumstances….and to share my emotions with others.</div>
<div></div>
<div>I am grateful for our caring community at St. David’s. May we recover well from these emotionally trying times as we support and pray for one another.  For those who would like special prayers, please come to our Tuesday morning Eucharist at 8:30 am.</div>

<p>I came across a quote from one of the most famous university presidents during the last three generations, Theodore Hesburgh from Notre Dame. He was known for putting the University on the map because he fought for education for all people.  He believed human rights for all was imperative. He fought for gender issues and accepted women into the University of Notre Dame. He also played a significant role as a member of the <a title="Protected by Outlook: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Commission_on_Civil_Rights.
